A Divine Journey Through Color
Written by Mary Steadman Rhodes, this beautiful 82-page book is more than just a lesson in color—it's an illustration of spiritual experience for the whole family. Inspired by God’s covenant and the significance of the rainbow in Scripture, Spectrum explores how each of the seven colors—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet—represents an attribute of God's character or promise.
From love and joy to healing and truth, readers will come to see the world around them as full of meaning and light. Whether it’s used during Sunday school, bedtime reading, or in family devotionals, this book is a touching reminder of God’s ever-present grace.

ode on our town -
chocolate city
This is a newspaper article of my picture/poem, "Chocolate City", a term used to describe Washington, D.C. at the time. Seated by my leg is Elaine, our dog . She was there to make sure all things went well! At 26 years old, this was my first paid poetic composition by the Washington Evening Star newspaper. The paper was looking for original works about African Americans and their unique experiences in Washington, D.C.

We’re so glad you’re here! This page is a celebration of how Spectrum: I Am All the Colors of God’s Rainbow has touched hearts, inspired young minds, and brought families closer to God’s promises—one color at a time.
Whether you're a parent, teacher, or young reader, your stories remind us why this book matters. Each testimony shared here is a beautiful reflection of how God’s truth shines through even the simplest things—like a rainbow in the sky or a page in a book.
I have loved my mother's poetry since I was young. Her poem "Spectrum" is one that reminds me of how beautiful God's love is even when it is hard to feel it in the business of life. I have children on the cusp of being teenagers, and "Independence Day" and "Black Girl--Black Woman" express the complex feelings and hopes that I have grown into and that my children are beginning to see. This book is a book about life, and I love it.
"My daughter asks to read this book every night! She now tells me green is her ‘God-healing color.”
— Lisa M., Parent
"This beautiful reflection on God’s creation and His love left me feeling deeply encouraged. The symbolism of the rainbow is woven so naturally through everyday experiences—each hue a gentle reminder of divine presence. A perfect devotional companion.”
— Anna Mitchell
"A concise and uplifting read. I appreciated how the author ties spiritual truths to the familiar image of a rainbow. At times I wanted more depth, but for meditative reading, it’s ideal."
— Jared Espinoza
"Mary Steadman Rhodes shares both vulnerability and celebration in ‘Spectrum.’ I especially loved how she associates each color with an emotional or spiritual facet—red for passion, green for growth, blue for peace—so relatable and moving."
— Clara Nguyen
